YES! There really was a Myrna! Well over 40 years ago, Myrna Kalkbrenner started her catering business servicing Pittsburgh, and the surrounding areas. She also developed a relationship with the Allegheny County Airport, providing catering to private charter aircrafts. Some of you may remember the Propeller Lounge in the terminal building there. This was also owned and operated by Myrna. In 1990, Myrna began thinking about retirement. Having worked hard over the years, she began her search for a manager who would uphold her outstanding reputation. That is when she found Tom Dunmyer. Tom was from the North Hills. He is a graduate of Duquesne University with a degree in Business Management, but his heart has always been in the food service industry. While in high school, Tom began working at Wildwood Golf Club as a dishwasher. Throughout high school, college, and upon graduation Tom remained at Wildwood working and training in all areas of their kitchen, but was always in search of his personal niche in the food service industry. He found that niche when he met Myrna. In January of 1995, after working with Myrna for five years, Tom was able to purchase Myrna’s Catering, Inc., and Myrna was able to retire with the knowledge that he would own and operate the company with the same pride and dedication that she had. In August of 2006, Tom’s daughter, Carrie joined the Myrna’s team. From a very young age, it was quite obvious Carrie would follow in her father’s footsteps. She always enjoyed going to work with him on weekends, and during the summer. It came as no surprise when she chose Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island for her college education. Having the same work ethics as her father, Carrie graduated from JWU in 3 ½ years. Her degree is in Food Service Management with a concentration in International Hospitality Management. Both Tom and Carrie are very much “hands on” with the business. In this new age of automated phone systems and voice mails, you will be pleasantly surprised when you call Myrna’s and hear a real person answer the phone. They enjoy interacting personally with their clients. You may even meet one of them when your catering is being delivered, or as a server at an event. Tom and Carrie take great pride in the ownership and operation of Myrna’s Catering, Inc. They work diligently at maintaining the company’s reputation for high-quality, yet affordable catering, and outstanding customer service!
